BySören CreutzburgKafka’s final mission is heading to cinemas. The official Japanese Kaiju No. 8 account announced on October 24 that the anime will conclude with a theatrical film planned for 2027. The English account names it Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission and has shared the super teaser visual above.
A film finale, with the date still to come
The Japanese announcement explicitly describes the project as the series finale. Its release window is 2027 in Japan; these two announcements do not give an exact opening day, runtime or overseas cinema dates. If you are waiting to book a screening outside Japan, there is no date in this announcement to put in your calendar yet.
The new reveal is a poster. The English post calls it a super teaser visual, so this particular announcement should not be mistaken for a new trailer. Both accounts point to more information to come.
One very bad day for the city
The visual puts a many-eyed kaiju above the buildings, with smoke swallowing the street below. The small train and traffic lights make its size feel particularly unpleasant. It is a stark image for an announcement about the end of Kafka’s story; it does not, on its own, tell us which manga chapters the film will adapt.
Catch up with Kafka
