Maru hunts kaiju for a living. Coco wants to live alongside them. Put those two in the same story and even agreeing on what counts as a happy ending could get complicated. That contrast is the hook for KAIJU DECODE: The Ring of Aidara, the original CG animation project from Tsuburaya Productions and Toei Animation.
The new teaser introduces their voices
The official site shared the teaser on October 18, 2026. It includes animation from the project and the first character voices for Maru, played by Aya Yamane, and Coco, played by Karin Takahashi. Watch the official Toei Animation upload below.
The release window is 2027
KAIJU DECODE is planned for 2027. The official site does not currently name an exact release day or a streaming service. The teaser was published on October 18, 2026; it is a preview of the upcoming project.
Two ways of seeing the same kaiju
Maru lives in the City and earns his living hunting kaiju. Coco comes from the Aidara people in the Zone and hopes for coexistence. Their different circumstances make the central question more interesting than simply asking who can defeat the biggest creature.
The new visual puts Coco's approach front and centre. She reaches towards the kaiju's enormous face, with a small smile rather than a weapon. The scale is imposing; the gesture is gentle. That tension is what makes the image worth stopping on.
Sakai, in Osaka, is the story's setting, according to the city's Film Office. Its project introduction describes the contrast between the City's advanced society and the dangerous Zone. That gives the characters' disagreement a place and a way of life behind it.
The official staff list credits S/N as director, Katsuie Shibata for the script, Sei Nakashima and Masatsugu Saito for character designs, and Masayuki Goto for kaiju designs.
