That job interview took a turn. Happy Kanako’s Killer Life is becoming a TV anime, with Japanese broadcasting set to begin in April 2027. The announcement arrived on October 16 alongside a new teaser visual and a 51-second promotional video. It is the first look at how the workplace comedy is being adapted for animation.

Kanako Nishino is worn down by a toxic office job. Her next workplace seems almost suspiciously attractive: good conditions, a generous salary and a chance to start again. There is one detail she misses during the application process. It is an assassination company. The comedy follows a timid former office worker discovering an unexpected talent for a very different line of work.

If the premise sounds like a collision between workplace burnout and wildly inappropriate career advice, that is the joke. The teaser even opens in the style of a recruitment advert. Its cheerful presentation makes the switch to the actual job more absurd. Watch it before deciding whether this is the most alarming benefits package in anime.

Shinji Takamatsu is directing and writing the anime. His comedy credits include Gintama and Grand Blue, giving fans a concrete reason to pay attention beyond the unusual premise. Animation production is by Drive. Toshiya Wakabayashi’s original four-panel manga is published by Seikaisha.

April 2027 is the confirmed Japanese broadcast window. The announcement does not give an exact premiere day or an international streaming service, so neither is a watch appointment yet. For now, the official teaser offers the first look at the adaptation’s approach. Does this make your Spring shortlist, or would you leave the interview immediately? The anime card below also connects to the original manga and Wakabayashi’s creator page. For the source material, choose Read on the title page; the anime and manga sit together there, so you can explore both without searching again.
