Boo Cook

Boo Cook (born 1972) is a British comic book artist celebrated for his vibrant, psychedelic illustrations in science fiction comics, particularly his long-standing contributions to the anthology series 2000 AD, where he has worked on iconic titles including Judge Dredd, ABC Warriors, and Elephantmen. Cook's career with 2000 AD began in his youth with a fan-submitted sketch to the publication's letters page, evolving into professional penciling on short stories like Future Shocks and a guest appearance on A.B.C. Warriors. His style excels in depicting expansive crowd scenes, intricate alien designs, and technicolor psychedelic elements, drawing influences from artists like Moebius and Brendan McCarthy, as well as filmmakers such as David Lynch and Alejandro Jodorowsky. He favors traditional media like acrylics and inks over digital tools, emphasizing spontaneity in his process, which often involves layered washes on primed artboards followed by Photoshop refinements for vivid hues. Among his notable creations are the co-written series Asylum, Dead Men Walking, and Harry Kipling (Deceased), alongside cover art for various 2000 AD progs and U.S. publications like Prophet and Marvel Apes. More recently, Cook collaborated with writer David Hine on Void Runners, a mind-expanding sci-fi epic blending Moby-Dick and Dune influences with 1960s counterculture themes, featuring non-binary protagonist Captain Shikari navigating fascist regimes and hallucinogenic drugs derived from cosmic jellyfish. Regarded as one of 2000 AD's emerging talents, his work continues to push boundaries in genre storytelling through irreverent, visually immersive narratives.
